The Sound Transit Board of Directors has appointed Dow Constantine as the new CEO, effective April 1, 2025, following a thorough selection process that included 60 applicants. Board Chair Dave Somers emphasized the urgency of advancing a regional mass transit system and praised Constantine's extensive experience in managing large organizations and transit agencies. Constantine, who has served as King County Executive since 2009, expressed gratitude for the board's confidence, underscoring his commitment to enhancing transit-connected communities in Central Puget Sound. His prior leadership at King County Metro, recognized as one of the largest and best transit agencies in North America, positions him well for this new role. The contract stipulates an initial term through December 31, 2026, with options for two one-year renewals.

In light of ongoing challenges such as COVID and workforce shortages, Constantine's leadership will be pivotal in driving recovery and growth for Sound Transit. Interim CEO Goran Sparrman will assist during the transition period until May 2, 2025. Constantine's vision for a world-class transit system reflects the needs of the region and aims to enhance both the economy and the environment.
