Celebrating 50 Years of the Vietnamese Refugee Experience at Mountlake Terrace library March 30
On March 30, 2025, the Mountlake Terrace Library will commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Fall of Saigon with an event titled “Departure, Survival, Success: Celebrating 50 years of the Vietnamese Refugee Experience. ” This initiative, sponsored by Tu-Ha Nguyen, a Vietnamese refugee, seeks to honor the resilience and journeys of thousands of Vietnamese families who sought safety after the Vietnam War. The event will explore crucial themes of departure, survival, and success through film excerpts and expert-led discussions. Participants will watch clips from *Last Days in Vietnam*, focusing on the harrowing final days of the war, and *Green Dragon*, which depicts life in refugee camps. Notable figures like James A.
Anderson, an Asian history professor, and Tony Bui, a Sundance-winning filmmaker, will contribute to the discussions. The library invites attendees to view the films beforehand on Kanopy and YouTube, ensuring a richer experience. For those unable to attend in-person, a Zoom link will be provided for remote participation. Questions can be sent in advance to further engage with the topics presented during the event.
