Former Lynnwood City Council VP resigns to become PUD commissioner

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Julieta Altamirano-Crosby has resigned from her role as vice president of the Lynnwood City Council to accept a position as a commissioner for the Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD). Her resignation, effective immediately, was communicated through a letter read during a council meeting, as she was not present. The decision to step down follows weeks of debate regarding the compatibility of her serving in both elected positions, with some council members questioning the legality based on city code. Although city attorney Lisa Marshall suggested that state law would permit her dual service, the council voted to table discussions on amending the code. Altamirano-Crosby, who made history as the first Latina on the council, highlighted her dedication to local issues, including improvements to community services.

Mayor Christine Frizzell praised her contributions and commitment to Lynnwood, expressing confidence in her future endeavors with the PUD. The council will address the process for filling the vacant seat left by Altamirano-Crosby in their next meeting, as Washington state law requires a new appointment within 90 days. This transition marks a significant change in the city's representation and leadership.
