Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. community celebrations Jan. 19 and 20 in Everett

The Greater Everett Area will honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a two-day community celebration on January 19 and 20, 2024. For three decades, this event has been a vital platform for community connection and honoring Dr.

King's contributions to civil rights. This year’s theme, 'Mission Possible: Working Together To Achieve The Dream,' underscores a commitment to unity and the ongoing pursuit of social justice. The celebration begins on Sunday with a keynote address by Pastor J. J. Frank, executive director of the Marysville YMCA, and features the Greater Everett MLK Celebration Choir performing contemporary and gospel music.

Community youth will also showcase their talents, including winners from the Prodigies for Peace Essay and Art Contest. The following day, attendees will participate in a march and rally, starting at Everett Memorial Stadium and concluding at the Carl Gipson Center. Organized by the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee, these events aim to foster knowledge and appreciation of Black heritage while promoting racial harmony and cultural diversity. The celebrations are free and open to individuals of all ages, providing an inclusive opportunity for community engagement.
