Where bad art is good The No Talent Club at ArtSpot invites all to create

Lynnwood, WALocal News

ArtSpot in Edmonds has introduced the No Talent Art Club, a weekly gathering designed to encourage artistic expression among individuals of all skill levels. Co-owner Ziggy Baudendistel established the club to challenge the notion that one must possess talent to create art, stating, 'All art is good art. ' This inclusive environment allows participants to bring their materials or use basic supplies provided at the venue, effectively removing financial barriers to creativity. Baudendistel emphasizes that consistent practice is key to improvement, likening it to weightlifting. The club has seen participation from five to twenty attendees, offering a sense of companionship and reducing feelings of isolation during creative endeavors.

One participant, Deborah Bailey, enjoys sketching while attending the club, showcasing her artwork and expressing her love for the shop. ArtSpot hopes to collaborate with the Edmonds Creative Art District for a more permanent location for the No Talent Art Club, despite potential budgetary constraints. The club meets every Friday from 6 to 8 p. m. , with a flexible pay-what-you-can fee structure for using art supplies, making it accessible to all.
