State Patrol Reminds Drivers to Make Good Choices During Holidays

Lynnwood, WALocal News

In a recent announcement, the Washington State Patrol and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission are urging drivers to make safe choices during the holiday season, a time marked by increased traffic and potential dangers on the road. In 2023, 78 out of 810 traffic fatalities in Washington occurred during the holidays, highlighting the urgent need for heightened awareness. Officials stress that impaired driving was a factor in 51% of these fatalities, underscoring the importance of designating a sober driver or using alternative transportation options. They emphasize the need to slow down, especially in winter weather, where high speeds can lead to severe accidents. Distracted driving has also been a significant issue, contributing to 17% of fatalities last year, prompting the call for drivers to keep their focus on the road.

Furthermore, a staggering number of victims were not wearing seatbelts, which have proven to save lives for over 75 years. By sharing these critical safety tips, the Washington State Patrol aims to reduce the number of preventable deaths on the road. Their message is clear: making good choices can save lives during this holiday season.
