Some Snohomish County schools start late amid power outages

Lynnwood, WALocal News

A severe storm hit Snohomish County on Wednesday, causing widespread power outages affecting over 57,000 residents. In response, several school districts, including Snohomish, Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Monroe, and Edmonds, implemented two-hour late starts, with some schools remaining closed for the day. Marysville Getchell High School operated on emergency power until power was restored to all schools by 8 a. m. The storm also caused road closures due to flooding on 44th Avenue W in Lynnwood and fallen trees obstructing I-5, creating hazardous travel conditions and prompting local authorities to issue flood advisories.

Fortunately, weather forecasts suggested that the rain would not significantly impact local rivers. This situation underscores the community's ongoing challenges in adapting to unpredictable weather patterns, and residents are encouraged to stay cautious and informed as recovery efforts continue.
