This land handout will bring apartments to Lynnwood light rail station

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Lynnwood City Center Station is set to see the development of up to 167 low-rent apartments, as Sound Transit has agreed to sell the land to nonprofit Housing Hope. This project addresses the urgent need for affordable housing in the Seattle area, where rising costs have left many families struggling. The proposed apartments will be complemented by community services, including a medical-dental clinic, child care, and a behavioral health center aimed at supporting youth and families. The land, appraised at $4. 8 million, will be sold for only $167,000, highlighting the agency's social responsibility.

Individuals earning $55,155 or less and families of four making $75,660 or less will qualify for these apartments. The transit board's Executive Committee has unanimously supported the deal, which awaits ratification from the full board. Construction could begin as early as late 2026 if additional funding is secured. This initiative seeks to alleviate the housing crisis while enhancing access to essential resources near public transit.
