Elderly woman dies in Lynnwood house fire Sunday

Lynnwood, WALocal News

A devastating house fire in Lynnwood, Washington, resulted in the tragic death of an elderly woman and the complete destruction of her home. The fire broke out shortly after noon on December 15, 2024, prompting a swift response from South County Fire. Firefighters arrived to find the two-story structure almost entirely engulfed in flames, complicating their efforts to enter and fight the blaze. After about 20 minutes of battling the flames from the outside, they managed to access the interior, where they found the woman in her 80s deceased. A man in his 90s was also evaluated for smoke inhalation but was not seriously injured.

While it is believed that other residents lived in the home, the elderly couple was thought to be the only ones present at the time of the fire. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Officials remind the public of the life-saving importance of smoke alarms, urging homeowners to regularly check their devices and replace batteries annually.
