** Everett businesses advocate for the creation of a local Chamber of Commerce

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The movement to re-establish a chamber of commerce in Everett is gaining momentum as local businesses express the need for a supportive structure that has been missing since 2011. Tyler Chism, the city’s economic development manager, presented a proposal at a City Council meeting, highlighting the potential benefits of a new chamber, including improved networking, business advocacy, and support for small enterprises. The proposal requests $500,000 in COVID-19 relief funds to kickstart the chamber, with a goal of achieving self-sustainability by 2028. Many local business owners feel their concerns, especially those of smaller shops, have been overlooked without a dedicated chamber. The previous Everett Area Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in local economic advocacy before its disbandment, and its revival is seen as crucial for addressing current challenges.

The business community's response has been overwhelmingly supportive, indicating a strong desire for such an organization. The City Council's decision could lead to the establishment of the chamber as early as next year, reflecting a broader effort to rejuvenate the local economy post-pandemic.
