Police: Impaired Lynnwood driver fatally ran over baby

A tragic incident unfolded in Lynnwood when an impaired driver ran over a 1-year-old boy, leading to his death. The suspect, Junior Melendez Chamorro, 45, was driving a 2023 Infiniti QX56 and struck the child outside a residence on Beverly Park Road. Emergency responders found the boy lying in the driveway, unresponsive, and despite their efforts, he could not be revived. Witnesses indicated that Chamorro was responsible for the accident, prompting his arrest on suspicion of vehicular homicide while under the influence. Following a drug recognition assessment, authorities suspected he was under the influence of both a depressant and cannabis.

During a court hearing, bail was set at $500,000, and no family members spoke during the proceedings. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office will confirm the child's identity and the official cause of death. This incident highlights the serious consequences of impaired driving and its impact on community safety.
