Another Snohomish County child hurt in fall from third-story window

Lynnwood, WALocal News

A 4-year-old girl was critically injured after falling from a third-floor window of a townhome in Lynnwood, underscoring an alarming trend of child falls as summer temperatures rise. The incident occurred around 8 p. m. on Saturday, prompting a swift response from firefighters who transported the child to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. This incident adds to a troubling statistic, with 14 children in Snohomish County having fallen from windows this year, exceeding last year's total of 12.

Most of these incidents have occurred in June, raising concerns among local authorities as warmer weather approaches, with temperatures expected to reach the 80s. Fire officials attribute the increasing number of falls to new residential constructions, which often place bedrooms on higher floors. To counter this trend, authorities urge parents to install window guards, supervise their children near windows, open windows only a few inches, and keep climbable furniture away from window areas.
