Man, 19, killed in pursuit accused of shooting mother near Arlington

Lynnwood, WALocal News

A disturbing event occurred in Arlington, Washington, where a 19-year-old man shot his mother multiple times during an argument at their home. The 42-year-old mother did not survive the incident, despite deputies' attempts to perform lifesaving measures upon their arrival. Approximately 15 minutes later, following the shooting, law enforcement initiated a pursuit on Highway 9, where the suspect attempted to flee. In an effort to bring the situation to a safe conclusion, deputies executed a PIT maneuver which caused the man to be thrown from his vehicle. Tragically, he died at the scene following the crash.

The closure of Highway 9 lasted for several hours as authorities conducted an investigation into the incident. A PIT maneuver is a police tactic used to stop vehicles by crashing into them, and it is employed in high-risk situations. As the investigation continues, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office will work to confirm the identities and causes of death for both individuals involved.
