Boeing Layoffs Will Include Nearly 2,200 Workers in Washington

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Boeing's recent decision to lay off nearly 2,199 workers in Washington is a significant aspect of its ongoing workforce reduction plan, targeting a total of 17,000 job cuts company-wide. This move follows a challenging financial period for Boeing, which has reported a $6 billion quarterly loss and faced production delays, particularly with the 777X aircraft. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace confirmed that 438 of its members in engineering and technical roles received layoff notices last week. A Boeing spokesperson stated that the layoffs will affect various sectors within the company. This workforce adjustment is part of the new CEO Kelly Ortberg's strategy to stabilize the company's finances while providing support to impacted employees, including severance packages.

Boeing's strategy also involves leaving many positions unfilled and focusing on hiring for critical roles. The situation is further complicated by a recent strike by Boeing machinists, and the impact on the workforce and operational capabilities will be closely monitored.
