Climate-themed concert in Edmonds aims to inspire ‘hope and action’

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Nelda Swiggett, a Seattle-based pianist and composer, will debut her latest climate-themed piece, 'For the Birds,' during a concert scheduled for Sunday at the Edmonds United Methodist Church. This musical event aims to engage attendees in meaningful discussions about climate change, particularly its impact on local bird populations that have drastically declined over the years. Swiggett shared insights from bird experts during her creative process, enriching the narrative woven through her compositions. The performance will feature the Nelda Swiggett Quintet alongside poet Jill McGrath, enhancing the experience with a blend of music and spoken word. Swiggett's previous work, 'The Alaska Suite,' received acclaim and inspired many audience members to take action on environmental issues, such as purchasing electric vehicles.

The concert's goal is to instill a sense of hope and motivate attendees to participate in climate action efforts. Suggested donations for the event range from $10 to $20, and children under 12 can attend for free. Tickets are available online, ensuring accessibility for all community members interested in supporting local environmental initiatives.
