Ferry ticket prices increase by 4.25% in Washington State

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Starting October 2, 2024, Washington State Ferries will implement a fare increase of approximately 4. 25%, marking the second consecutive year of such hikes. This adjustment, approved by the Washington State Transportation Commission, is part of a two-year transportation budget aimed at addressing rising operational costs. For instance, a round-trip ticket on the Edmonds-Kingston route will now cost $10. 25, with reduced fares available for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The fare increases vary by route and vehicle type, with specific adjustments detailed for passenger-only fares and vehicle transport. Importantly, the peak-season surcharge, which typically applies from May to September, will not be in effect from October until May, potentially mitigating some of the fare increases for regular commuters. This fare adjustment is part of a broader strategy to generate an additional $28. 8 million in ticket sales to support ferry operations. For a complete list of updated fares, travelers can visit the Washington State Transportation Commission's website.
