Lake Stevens woman charged with unprovoked stabbing of brother-in-law

Lynnwood, WALocal News

A serious assault case has emerged from Lake Stevens, where a woman has been charged with first-degree assault after allegedly attacking her brother-in-law. The incident took place on September 19 when the woman, 32, approached her brother-in-law's home office and pepper sprayed him without provocation. In a desperate struggle, the man attempted to defend himself, thinking he was being punched until he realized she was stabbing him with a pocket knife. Family members responded to his cries for help, and one relative was injured while trying to take the knife from her. Police arrived to find the scene chaotic, with an open pocket knife and pepper spray found nearby, the blade stained with dried blood.

The brother-in-law was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he was found to have multiple stab wounds. Prosecutors have noted that the suspect suffers from mental illness, specifically paranoia, and a hearing to assess her competency to stand trial is scheduled for January. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding domestic violence and mental health issues in the community.
