Lynnwood, WALocal News

In a tragic incident on Wednesday night, a man lost his life after crashing his Honda sedan into a light pole on Highway 204 in Lake Stevens. The crash occurred just before 9 p. m. when the driver failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of 91st Avenue NE. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lake Stevens Police Department suspects that intoxication and excessive speed played a role in this unfortunate event. Following the accident, the eastbound lanes of Highway 204 were closed until around 12:30 a. m. , causing traffic disruptions and requiring emergency services' intervention. This incident underscores the critical issue of road safety, particularly regarding speeding and driving under the influence.

As investigations continue, authorities urge drivers to prioritize caution and adhere to traffic regulations. The community mourns the loss and reflects on the urgent need for increased awareness of safe driving practices.
