Lynnwood, WALocal News

In the wake of a catastrophic bomb cyclone, Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers declared an emergency to address the extensive damage inflicted by the storm. The proclamation directs various county departments to take necessary recovery measures, focusing on infrastructure restoration and assistance for affected residents. Tragically, the storm resulted in the loss of two lives, emphasizing the critical need for both immediate and long-term recovery efforts. At the storm's peak, over 135,000 residents faced power outages, prompting a coordinated response from utility crews statewide. The county's Department of Emergency Management is working with local agencies to document damages and will provide online and in-person options for residents to report their losses.

Residents are encouraged to compile important information regarding property damage to aid in potential relief funding applications. Somers noted that the impacts of severe weather extend beyond immediate crises, affecting community resilience and recovery. The county's proactive approach aims to mitigate the long-term consequences of such devastating events.
