The Mukilteo police department responded to an online threat directed at Kamiak High School on December 4, 2024, initiating a multi-agency investigation with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol. Around 2 p. m. , law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the school and its surroundings, finding no suspicious activity. This increased police presence coincided with the end of the school day as students and staff were leaving.

Authorities confirmed the area was safe and indicated that similar threats had been reported at other schools across Washington, suspected to have originated from an external source not connected to Mukilteo. Mukilteo Police Chief Andy Illyn highlighted the importance of taking such threats seriously, reaffirming the priority of children's safety.
