Washington lawmakers will convene in Olympia next week for committee days, focusing on a projected $16 billion budget shortfall as they prepare for the 2026 session starting January 12. The Joint Committee on Energy Supply will discuss data centers at 1:30 p. m. on Wednesday, while health insurance costs and vaccine safety will be addressed later that day. Thursday's agenda will largely revolve around budget matters, including discussions on Senate Bill 5814, which imposes new sales taxes expected to generate $1.

1 billion in revenue. The Senate Ways and Means Committee will also cover future tax collections and growing lawsuit payouts. Concurrently, transportation issues will receive attention, including updates on bridge repairs and the Washington State Ferries electrification program. Lawmakers aim to address the financial challenges faced by the state while maintaining essential services.
