Its an ace. Pickleball gets its own Washington license plate

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Washington unveiled a specialty license plate celebrating pickleball on November 20, 2025, marking the state's official sport. The Seattle Metro Pickleball Association, led by Kate Van Gent, initiated the effort, which required gathering 3,500 signatures to gain legislative support. The plate is priced at $157. 25, with proceeds directed towards building and maintaining public pickleball courts. Lawmakers included the pickleball plate in a larger bill, dubbed “Bill’s Bill” in honor of Senator Bill Ramos, who died shortly before the bill's passage.

This initiative reflects the growing popularity of pickleball, which has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the U. S. Washington plans to introduce additional specialty plates, including one featuring pollinators, with funds directed towards education about honey bees. The state also aims to redesign a Mount St. Helens plate after initial tests failed.

This initiative exemplifies Washington's dedication to promoting local culture through specialty license plates.
