More details on why South Snohomish Countys only hygiene center is closing

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Jean Kim Foundation is actively seeking a new host site for its hygiene center, which is set to close in December due to the property owner's decision to sell the land. The foundation requires a building of approximately 2,000 square feet with a minimum of two shower rooms and four to five bathrooms, preferably located near public transit. Executive Director Sandra Mears emphasized the center's crucial role, having provided over 51,543 showers and serving around 50 guests daily. The foundation is prepared to pay up to $3,800 monthly for utilities or rent and can also cover on-site staffing costs. Support from the community is vital, with calls for donations of care packages containing hygiene products and cold weather gear.

The closure will significantly impact the local homeless population, as it removes a key resource for meeting essential needs. The foundation plans a community event at the hygiene center on December 12 to express gratitude and raise awareness of the situation. Mears stated that losing the center could hinder individuals' progress toward stability, creating additional barriers for those in need.
