Its not too late Free womens self-defense classes continue in October
Women in Lynnwood actively participate in Women Empowered, a free self-defense program that utilizes jiu-jitsu techniques tailored for women. Led by Lynnwood police officer Maryam McDonald at Panda Roll Jiu Jitsu, the program consists of 15 lessons designed to address the 20 most common physical threats women face. McDonald highlighted the unique advantage of jiu-jitsu for smaller individuals, stating that it relies on leverage rather than strength. The program welcomes participants aged 12 and older, accommodating all skill levels and allowing them to progress at their own pace. The second class has reached its maximum of 40 participants, but newcomers can register for the upcoming session on October 4.
These free classes are scheduled bi-weekly, fostering a sense of community and empowerment among local women. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on personal safety and self-defense education in the Lynnwood area. As the program continues, it aims to equip more women with essential skills to handle potential threats effectively.
