Applications open for committee to name Edmonds School Districts new middle school

The Edmonds School District plans to construct a fifth middle school in Lynnwood, with construction scheduled for summer 2026 and a planned opening in fall 2028. In an effort to engage the community, the district is forming a School Naming Committee that will recommend three to five potential names to the school board. Community members, including families, staff, and students, can apply to join the committee by 5 p. m. on Friday, Sept.

26. The committee's responsibilities include soliciting name ideas that reflect the geographic features of the area and hold significance for local residents. Additionally, it will avoid naming duplication with existing schools in the district or surrounding areas. This initiative highlights the district's commitment to community involvement in shaping the identity of the new school. The district's guidelines aim to create a meaningful connection between the school and its community.

By involving various stakeholders, the district seeks to ensure that the new school resonates with the local population.
