Edmonds College's Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program (CAP) has received a $575,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to sustain its operations through the end of 2026. This intensive eight-week program, comprising 300 hours of tuition-free training, takes place at the Advanced Manufacturing Skills Center at Paine Field. Students gain hands-on experience and earn an AMSC badge of completion, enhancing their prospects for apprenticeships and entry-level positions in the construction industry. Dr. Amit B.

Singh, the college president, highlighted the grant's significance in equipping students with the skills needed for higher-paying careers. The funding is part of WSDOT's Pre-Apprenticeship & Supportive Services Grant Program, which aims to diversify the highway construction workforce. It targets outreach to socially disadvantaged individuals, such as those aging out of foster care and young adults from the juvenile rehabilitation system. CAP is designed to eliminate financial barriers, making high-quality training accessible to a diverse group of learners. Graduates leave the program with essential knowledge and practical experience, paving the way for successful careers.
