Hurst avoids campaign violation penalties Binda allegations under review

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Lynnwood City Councilmembers George Hurst and Josh Binda are currently under investigation by the Public Disclosure Commission for alleged campaign finance violations. The PDC found Hurst's reporting errors to be minor and imposed no penalties after he corrected the issues within two weeks. However, Binda's case remains unresolved, with multiple complaints filed against him, including allegations of incomplete financial reporting and failure to respond to a public records request. Conner Edwards, who has filed over 1,000 complaints since 2016, lodged the complaints against both candidates. Binda has faced scrutiny in the past, accumulating $1,550 in fines for late campaign disclosures and previously misusing campaign funds for personal expenses.

Hurst aims to unseat incumbent Mayor Christine Frizzell in the November election. Binda seeks re-election for Council Pos. 3 against political newcomer Bryce Owings, who narrowly won the primary election. The PDC mandates that hearings for each case occur within 90 days of the complaints being filed.
