Sponsor spotlight Edmonds College Rocketry Team launches big at IREC

The Edmonds College Rocketry Team showcased their skills at the 18th International Rocketry Engineering Competition in Midland, Texas, competing against over 150 teams. Their journey was marked by challenges, including a late-arriving rocket that caused initial setbacks. However, judges praised their innovative design and dedication, allowing them to stand out among larger universities. Club advisor William Hamp emphasized their achievement, noting they surpassed many competitors. With crucial support from Washington State University, they acquired the necessary parts to proceed with their launch despite a storm damaging the site.

The team successfully launched their rocket, recovering it intact after navigating rugged terrain. Their experience provided valuable real-world insights, emphasizing teamwork and determination. Ultimately, the event highlighted the capabilities of students at smaller colleges in the competitive engineering landscape.
