Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Seattle Kokon Taiko Drummers will perform at Lynndale Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 2 p. m. This free event invites audiences of all ages to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of Japanese Taiko drumming. Taiko, which blends rhythm and movement, has origins in Japanese mythology involving the sun goddess Amaterasu and the god of thunder.

The drumming tradition has historically been used in festivals to mimic nature sounds and create ambiance in theatrical performances. The Seattle Kokon Taiko group, established in 1980, consists of performers from the local Japanese American community and showcases their heritage throughout Washington and Oregon. The event is hosted by the Lynnwood Library and made possible by support from Lynnwood Parks and Recreation and the city's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission. Attendees can explore the history of Taiko further on the group's website. This performance highlights the ongoing importance of cultural expression and community engagement in the Lynnwood area.
