Lynnwood, WALocal News

Rep. Rick Larsen visited Kongsberg Discovery in Lynnwood, where the company announced plans to manufacture HUGIN Autonomous Underwater Vehicles in the U. S. for the first time in over three decades. This decision aims to meet rising demand from the U.

S. Department of Defense and commercial sectors, with Kongsberg executives seeking Larsen's help to expedite their expansion to additional sites in Washington’s 2nd District. After touring Kongsberg, Larsen spoke with Edmonds College leaders about the effects of changes to student loan repayment plans that could adversely affect 357 students. The college plans to enhance financial literacy programs and promote federal Pell Grants to mitigate loan dependency. Despite additional funding for Pell Grants, concerns linger about potential budget deficits starting in 2028.

Edmonds College is also expanding its academic offerings, including a new AI and robotics bachelor’s degree. This visit underscores the need for collaboration between local industry and educational institutions to address federal policy impacts. Larsen's involvement signifies ongoing efforts to support regional economic growth and educational stability.
