Another 122M from opioid settlements now available to Washington

More than 100 local governments in Washington can now access $122. 2 million from settlements with Purdue Pharma and eight generic opioid manufacturers, including Alvogen and Mylan. The funds are intended to combat the opioid epidemic and will be distributed over 15 years, with much of the funding available in the first three years. Signups opened on Monday, with a critical deadline for the Purdue Pharma settlement set for September 30. If all eligible local governments join, the total amount recovered from opioid manufacturers will reach $1.

3 billion. In 2024, Washington reported 3,137 fatal overdoses, highlighting the ongoing crisis driven by fentanyl. Attorney General Nick Brown stated that the settlements could save lives and bolster community resources. The state's share will be split evenly with local governments, and 20% will support tribal communities. Local governments are encouraged to join all nine settlements to maximize funding, as participation directly impacts the total distribution.
