Its been two months since county joined a housing-related lawsuit against federal government. Heres whats happening so far
Snohomish County is part of a lawsuit challenging the federal government's conditions on homeless housing funding. Filed in May, the lawsuit contests executive orders from the Trump Administration that dictate compliance with immigration and health care regulations for federal grants from HUD and DOT. County Executive Dave Somers states these conditions violate the separation of powers and constitutional protections. In June, a U. S.
District Court judge granted a preliminary injunction, allowing the county to access grant funds while legal proceedings remain active. The county has received $16. 7 million in Continuum of Care funding, critical for services such as supportive housing and assistance for domestic violence survivors. Losing this funding could lead to a dramatic rise in homelessness, potentially doubling the unhoused population. The Snohomish County Human Services Department continues to collaborate with local organizations to manage services supported by these funds.
The county remains committed to its fight against the federal funding conditions that threaten vital housing assistance.
