Lynnwood city staff celebrate safer street upgrades at College Place Elementary
Lynnwood city officials celebrated the completion of a $3 million project that paved the last gravel road in the city, enhancing safety near College Place Elementary. Public Works Director Jared Bond noted the project’s significance for school children and emergency responders during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The initiative included new sidewalks, drainage improvements, and ADA-compliant ramps funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the American Rescue Plan Act. Local resident Emily Cornish advocated for the road's paving after encountering safety issues while driving on the gravel surface. Traffic patterns were chaotic, with drop-offs and pickups often blocking local driveways.
The project also introduced a new signal at the intersection of 76th Avenue and 204th Street to improve safety. City officials aim to prevent accidents and enhance community safety with these upgrades. The collaboration involved public feedback and partnerships with local school and fire departments.
