Father jailed after 4-year-old accidentally shoots mother in unincorporated Lynnwood

A 44-year-old man was arrested in Lynnwood after his 4-year-old son accidentally shot the boy's mother with an unsecured firearm. The 42-year-old woman suffered a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her upper left arm and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Deputies responded to the report of an assault with a weapon early Tuesday morning, discovering multiple unsecured firearms in the residence. The child retrieved the firearm from his father, who was asleep on the couch at the time of the incident. The father now faces charges of reckless endangerment and unlawful storage of a firearm.

The 4-year-old and his 9-year-old sibling were released to family members after the event. Gun safety advocates emphasize the importance of securing firearms to prevent such tragedies. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about firearm safety in homes with children.
