Lynnwood council to work on cannabis ordinance, vote on EV charging fees and city code changes July 14

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Lynnwood City Council will discuss lifting its retail cannabis sales ban during a meeting on July 14, with a vote expected in September. This ban, established in 2015, has limited local cannabis commerce despite the state's legalization in 2012. The council will also consider implementing a 39-cent-per-kwh fee for electric vehicle charging stations, aiming to manage maintenance costs after the stations were unveiled in May. Another key item is the establishment of a city youth council, which could either function as a formal advisory body or an engagement program through the Parks and Recreation Department. The council will also address a proposal to standardize tax remittance deadlines to 45 days after each quarter, providing businesses with clearer payment timelines.

Further, an ordinance clarifying late utility fees aims to eliminate compounding penalties that arose during the COVID pandemic. These initiatives reflect the council's effort to adapt city regulations to current needs and enhance community engagement. The meeting will be held at 6 p. m. at Lynnwood City Hall and will be live-streamed online.
