Cascade Symphony Orchestra receives grants for music education, outreach

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Cascade Symphony Orchestra has received $22,500 in grants from the Hazel Miller Foundation and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to enhance music education and community outreach in 2025. The Hazel Miller Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to support the orchestra’s Gold Medalist Program, Rising Stars Competition, and other educational initiatives. The Paul G. Allen Foundation's $12,500 grant, part of the Community Accelerator Grant program, will further strengthen these efforts.

Edward Benyas, the orchestra’s executive director, noted the importance of this funding in a recent announcement. The Gold Medalist Program enables high school string players to perform with professional musicians, enriching the educational experience. Additionally, the Rising Stars Competition encourages talented young musicians to pursue their passion. The support also facilitates scholarships for students attending the Edmonds School District’s Summer Music School. Cascade Symphony Orchestra, established in 1962, is a vital part of the South Snohomish community, reinforcing the importance of music in education.
