Art Beat Q A with Ballinger Shakespeare Companys founding members
Ballinger Shakespeare Company (BSC) will debut with a free outdoor performance of Much Ado About Nothing at Mathay-Ballinger Park from July 17-20. Co-founders Joe Wack and Megan Joplin, who frequently visit the park, identified it as an ideal location for community theater. Wack, an educator, noted that summer provided the perfect opportunity to realize their vision after years of discussion. Joplin highlighted a personal motivation to create joy in the wake of family losses, reflecting their commitment to inclusive theater. The park's natural features complement the play's themes of summer celebration and community engagement.
Wack selected Much Ado About Nothing for its strong characters and relevance to contemporary issues, including gender dynamics. He aims to present the play's humor and depth in a way that resonates with local audiences. BSC's mission is to enhance the arts landscape in Edmonds and make Shakespeare accessible to all.
