Climate Protection Last chance for the 7,500 EV discount

Lynnwood, WAGovernment

Flash flooding in Texas, wildfires in California and Europe, and heatwaves across several regions underscore the escalating climate crisis. Pope Leo XIV called for environmental stewardship as an expression of faith, stressing the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. Congress recently passed a tax and spending bill that reverses progress in climate disaster funding, significantly cutting support for healthcare and food assistance for children. Despite these setbacks, the bill encourages electric vehicle adoption by expediting a $7,500 tax credit deadline to the end of September. Buyers can receive this discount at the point of sale, but they must remind dealers about the incentive.

Income limits restrict the tax credit for high earners, although leasing provides an alternative without income restrictions. Buyers of used EVs can receive a 30% credit, capped at $4,000, but face lower income thresholds. The IRS maintains lists of qualifying vehicles, with specific price limits for new and used models.
