Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Mukilteo community will gather on July 3 to honor 13-year-old Jayda Johnson, who was tragically killed by errant gunfire in Lynnwood last year. The remembrance event at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park will welcome family, friends, and community members to share memories and unite against youth violence. Jayda's mother, Tabatha Johnson, expressed that the impact of her daughter's death extends beyond their family, affecting mall employees, friends, and educators. The suspect in the shooting, 17-year-old Samuel Gizaw, is currently awaiting trial. The Johnson family encourages ongoing discussions about youth violence and the need for stronger preventive measures.

Organizers aim to create a space for healing and reflection, emphasizing the importance of community action. Jayda was a student at Brier Terrace Middle School, and her death has sparked a call for accountability and support systems. The event serves not only as a tribute but also as a catalyst for change in the community.
