Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District's proposed budget for 2025-2026 shows a projected surplus of $2. 6 million, with revenues estimated at $452. 4 million and expenses at $449. 7 million. This surplus is significant as it marks the first time since 2020-21 that the district's revenues have exceeded expenses.

District Executive Director of Business and Finance Lydia Sellie noted that while the surplus is welcome, it only covers less than two days of routine expenses. Legislative changes this year enabled the district to collect the full $74. 8 million voter-approved levy, increasing collections by $6. 3 million compared to the previous year. The district had previously anticipated an $8.

5 million deficit before these funding changes were implemented. A public hearing took place on June 27, with a vote on the budget planned for July 8. Additionally, the district plans to restore some previously cut programs and address rising inflation costs. Looking ahead, the upcoming expiration of the four-year Educational Programs and Operations levy in 2026 poses future budget challenges.
