Iowa City Police Department hosts winter clothing drive

Iowa City, IALocal News

As winter approaches, the Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) is launching its annual clothing drive to collect winter apparel for those in need. This initiative is in partnership with the Consultation of Religious Communities, aiming to provide essential items such as coats, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, snow pants, and boots. Donations of new or gently used clothing will be accepted at various locations from September 23 to October 11, 2024. The distribution of collected items will occur from October 16 to 19 at River Community Church, where community members can choose from a selection of winter wear. To ensure health safety, only one representative per family will be permitted to attend, and participants must sign up for a 30-minute shopping slot.

Additionally, attendees are encouraged to wear masks and arrange for childcare while shopping. Free bus services are available for those wishing to attend the distribution event. This drive not only aims to provide warmth during the winter months but also fosters community support and engagement.
