Ex-DMACC administrator charged with extortion in connection with run for college board
Wade Robinson, formerly the dean of student resources at Des Moines Area Community College, was arrested on October 30 and charged with extortion for allegedly attempting to secure a $1 million settlement from board President Kevin Halterman to withdraw his candidacy for a board seat. Halterman filed a complaint with the Warren County sheriff's office, stating Robinson's actions constituted election violations. Robinson, who denies the charges, claims the emails referenced were part of ongoing discussions about litigation related to Title IX violations he has filed against the college. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on November 12. According to court documents, Robinson's emails suggested he would delay his candidacy if Halterman agreed to his financial demands.
Robinson argues he was always planning to run for the board, citing his experience in higher education. The case has garnered local attention, given its implications for the college's governance and ongoing legal issues. Robinson's allegations include claims of mishandling university resources by former officials, contributing to a complex backdrop of conflict at DMACC.
