Survey finds the 3 'ugliest' public buildings in Iowa. Do you agree?

Iowa City, IALocal News

The Robert Dekanski Team's survey has identified three public buildings in Iowa as among the ugliest in the country. The Pottawattamie County Courthouse, constructed in 1977, ranked 24th, characterized by its brick facade. The Sioux City Police Department headquarters, known for its decorative archways, came in 39th. Inside, a museum details the department's 150-year history, highlighting its community ties. The Long Lines Family Recreation Center, previously the Sioux City Municipal Auditorium, ranked 74th and is recognized for hosting significant events, including speeches by former Presidents Nixon and Kennedy.

Despite their aesthetic shortcomings, these buildings serve vital roles in Iowa's civic and cultural landscape. City officials underscore their importance as local landmarks that contribute to community identity. The survey reflects perceptions of public architecture, emphasizing the need for ongoing discussions about building design.
