Iowa City, IALocal News

U. S. Senator Chuck Grassley celebrated his 92nd birthday on September 17 with a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard from Dairy Queen, courtesy of Senator Tim Scott. Alongside this treat, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst brought him an ice cream cake to commemorate the occasion in Washington, D. C.

Grassley, who has served in the Senate since 1981, is the oldest member of the chamber and currently serves as president pro tempore, positioning him third in line for the presidency. He has not ruled out a run for re-election in 2028, stating he would weigh family considerations and his capability to serve. Grassley was first elected in 1980 and secured an eighth term in 2022. His political career spans decades, beginning in public office in 1958. If he runs again and is successful, he would be 101 years old by the end of his potential ninth term.

Grassley often shares his fondness for Dairy Queen on social media, highlighting his connection to Iowa.
