Everett City Council Approves Downtown Stadium

Everett, WALocal News

The Everett City Council approved the Downtown Everett Stadium proposal with a decisive 6-1 vote, with Judy Tuohy casting the sole dissenting vote. The total project cost is estimated at $82 million, which includes approximately $40 million for construction and $20 million for land acquisition and additional expenses. The city will contribute about $7. 25 million upfront, utilizing funds from various sources without raising taxes or tapping into the general fund. Future revenue from the stadium will help repay bonds that will cover the bulk of the funding.

The stadium will be the home for the Everett AquaSox, a potential USL Soccer team, and will also host a variety of outdoor events, including concerts and graduations. Among the approved agenda items were significant funding allocations for design services and property acquisition. The council's discussion included various professional services agreements to facilitate the project's progression. Detailed comments from council members will be transcribed and shared in the coming hours.
