Small Fee Added to Past Due Accounts for Utility Customers

Everett, WALocal News

Starting in March, Everett Utilities will implement a $5 fee for customers with past due utility accounts, aimed at covering the costs of mailed reminders. This fee will be applied when payments are not made by the due date, helping the utility manage collection expenses effectively. Customers facing financial hardships are encouraged to contact the utility to explore various assistance programs designed to support low-income individuals, veterans, seniors, and those with disabilities. In anticipation of a rate increase set for 2025, the utility is adjusting its billing practices to ensure sustainability and transparency. To help customers avoid late payments, the utility recommends signing up for autopay during their next payment.

Utility bills reflect the services already provided, with payments due within 20 days of billing. More information about the available assistance programs can be found at everettwa. gov/billassist. This proactive approach demonstrates Everett Utilities' commitment to supporting its community while managing operational costs effectively.
