Everett Mayor Set Citys 1st Buffer Zones In South By Evergreen Fred Meyer, In North Around 2600 Block Of Rockefeller
Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin has implemented two Service Facility Buffer Zones to regulate activities near service providers, following an ordinance passed by the City Council on May 4. These zones will restrict sitting, laying, or setting up structures within a two-block radius around designated service facilities and will require permits for meal distribution and other services. The first buffer zone, located near the Fred Meyer store and former Bank Building in south Everett, aims to address numerous complaints in the area. The second zone surrounds the UCC Church at 2624 Rockefeller, which currently hosts a shelter. City officials intend to educate residents within these zones about the new regulations, although formal signage will not be posted.
Outreach efforts will begin in the next 30-45 days, with information and maps to be made available online. This initiative aims to balance community safety and support for vulnerable populations. The ordinance establishing these zones will remain in effect until December 31, 2025.
