Edmonds College introduces new program to help career advancement in nursing

Edmonds, WALocal News

Edmonds College has launched an Associate in Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement (AN DTA) program designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) pursuing Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. The Washington State Board of Nursing fully approved the program, ensuring it meets state educational standards. This part-time, hybrid program allows students to balance their current jobs with their studies, combining online learning with in-person labs and clinical sessions. Graduates will receive an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, enabling them to take the NCLEX-RN exam and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing seamlessly. Kyra McCoy, nursing director, stated the program addresses the critical need for RNs in the community and builds on LPNs' existing skills.

The program's structure reduces required credits and overall tuition costs, making it a more accessible option for working professionals. The first cohort commenced in fall 2025, with admissions based on criteria such as a 2. 5 GPA and 12 months of LPN experience.
