Veterans Day 2025 Edmonds honors those who served
Around 100 people attended the Veterans Day ceremony at Edmonds Veterans Plaza, honoring military service members from the nation's inception to the present. VFW Post 8870 Commander Duane Bowman opened the event, stating that Veterans Day is not about glorifying war, but about recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans. Councilmember Vivian Olson, a U. S. Air Force veteran, emphasized the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who bear invisible scars from their service.
American Legion Post 99 Commander Dan Mullene recounted the story of Sgt. William Shemin, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously for his bravery during World War I. Shemin's story serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans, including those who faced discrimination. The event highlighted the community's dedication to honoring veterans and their families. This ceremony aligns with the nationwide observance of Veterans Day, reflecting gratitude for those who served in various conflicts.
