Prep girls soccer Warriors 2-1 win over Scots sends them to state tourney

Edmonds, WALocal News

Bella Dreitzler's late goal secured a 2-1 victory for the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors against the Shorecrest Scots, sending the team to the 3A State Tournament for the first time since 2018. The match was part of the District 1 3A Girls Soccer Tournament and remained tied at 1-1 until Dreitzler's bending shot from outside the 18-yard box found the net. E-W's goalkeeper Morgan Smith showcased her skills, making five saves and blocking a potential game-tying shot in the match's final moments. Coach Kim Plumis commended Smith's performance, noting her confidence and composure as a freshman. The Warriors initially scored when senior Lily Frank blasted a long-range goal in the ninth minute.

Frank's performance was notable despite struggling with tendonitis during the game. The victory marks a significant milestone for the Warriors, who concluded the season with a record of 12-3-3. This win highlights the growth of the team under Plumis's coaching in her second year.
